Light and Shadows
Fantastic Friday this week meant an opportunity to play with the affects of light and shadows. Room 17 came to work with us as we created a tin foil human figure. We attached them to a cardboard platform and then used a bright light to shine and cast a shadow on paper, which we traced. We then moved the light source and altered the shapes of the figures.
Hopefully, you can all make it to our assembly on Friday where we will be sharing these and other very cool Inquiry topics we have be learning about.

Hill top sing-a-long!
The kowhai syndicate enjoyed the beautiful weather and the chance to relax, after a huge cross country training run through the Wither Hills, with a mass sing at the Tea House. The improvement we are seeing with their fitness has been fantastic.
Hopefully we see you there for the School Cross Country being held on Tuesday 27th June in the afternoon.

Literacy + Visual Art = Masterpiece!
Room 15 have produced some fantastic art work for you to enjoy!
Exploring: Artistic mediums
We wanted to create a piece of autumn art while
exploring different art mediums.
Here we have used crayon and watercolours to express puddles,
a photograph of ourselves holding an
umbrella under a rainbow created from pastels.
We have used impasto gel with acrylic paint
to show a watery wet sky.

Measurement - Capacity
The Room 15 team have been working super hard to extend our understanding of capacity and volume. We have experienced all kind of activities and experiments to gain a greater understanding, here are a couple of photos of our fun!

We are ordering different bowls and cups. We measured the smallest container, then used that measurement to estimate the capacity of the other containers. Then we checked using a measuring jug.
Lucy's performance!
Congratulations Lucy on your fabulous performance at assembly on Friday.
Lucy has been learning the guitar with Pip during her own lunchtimes, and we were so impressed by her skills! Well done...

Smarties Fractions
We have been learning about fractions and finding a fraction of a number of objects by equal sharing in thirds, fifths and eighths... but also how many in a smarties packet and equal sharing, lucky if you got 14 in a packet!

Measurement - Volume
This week we have started exploring volume using non standard measurements and popcorn!!!
Firstly, we measured how many spoonfuls of kernels of popcorn were in a small bowl. We used different sized spoons to understand that we need to use a standard measure to make a true measurement.
We then estimated which bowl would be filled exactly up to the top with the popped popcorn.
Well done to Blake and Pierre who made the closest estimate!
We then explored the volumes of popcorn that would fit in a range of different containers.
Basically we just had a heap of fun... and got to eat some popcorn afterwards!!!
Our learning outcomes for today were:

Our learning outcomes for today were:
- use non-standard volume units (cups, spoons, bowls) to fill a container and count the number used
- recognise the need for a standard unit of volume
- measure to the nearest litre and half litre by using litre containers to fill and count
