Measurement - Weight session 2!

The students are enjoying our hands on - practical maths.  Today we looked at weight again, using the benchmarks we developed last week to estimate the weight of empty boxes and packages from home.  They did a wonderful job - especially Bella who accurately estimated the weight of all three of her packages!  Well done!
Then we looked at sending a package by NZ Post working out the cost based on the weight and the service.  Great work team!

Poetry buddy

Guinness arrived today unannounced to listen to our poetry lesson.  Guinness secretly follows me around different classes because he knows I'll always give him a cuddle!

And a picture of him in Room 4 last week!

Visual Art - Exploring different products...

Part of the fun is exploring!  Today we used a new product called Impasto Gel, which we use to add texture, structure and body to the painting.  Like some of the great Impressionists of the past!

Keep an eye out on our progress with the piece we are going, a combination of crayons, water colours, acrylics with Impasto gel and topped off with pastels... and don't forget a fabulous piece of writing.

Hopefully the end product turns out better than it sounds!

Measurement - Weight

Room 15 has started our Mass & Weight Unit.  We learned the difference between mass and weight and then estimated 1 kg of stones.  We used Mrs Muir's household items to get more of an understanding of estimating weight, and decided if each item was Lass than 1kg, 1kg or more than 1kg.  Then we double checked on the scales.

Izaiah and Ezra were the closed with their estimating!  Well done!

Self Portraits

We have finished out self portraits for 2017 and don't they look fantastic!
We started with black paper then we sketched out faces with pencil.  A think strip of PVA glue was applied around that sketch, when it dried we filled in the black space with soft pastel chalk.  We've had great feedback from other teacher about how wonderful they look.  Great work Room 15!

We finished Hayden's portrait for him, we miss him!

Guinness just hanging out!

What would Mrs Renfew say of she saw Guinness!

What a funny cat she is xx
