Welcome back to term 3!

It's great to see everyone's smiling faces back at school after school holidays!

 We have an incredibly busy and exciting term 3 with lots of events just around the corner. You should have received a notice home about upcoming events you need to note on your calendar and make payments for.  
We talked today about what jobs we can be doing around the house to help earn money towards the activities we are luckily enough to do; vacuuming, putting out the rubbish, cleaning the bathroom. 

I look forward to catching up with the students on next Friday to see how they are contributing!

Measurement

We have started a new unit with our measurement this week, we are learning all about area, check out some of our photos to see the progression of our learning.

Student were presented with an outline of a mystery object and a cube.  First, they estimated how many cubes would they need to cover the area of the object.

They were then able to use as many cubes as they wanted to check their estimations... most of them covered the entire object and counted each cube.  Could anyone think of a better way? Maths is sometimes about finding the trick to make thing easier on ourselves!

We realised how important it is to know our basic facts when we worked out we don't need to could one to one.  We can multiply each side.
